Processing a class of ophthalmological images using an anisotropic diffusion equation
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper we discuss application of an anisotropic diffusion equation in processing Posterior Capsular Opacification (PCO) Images. Such images are recorded to monitor the state of a patient’s vision after cataract surgery. Nonlinear filtering using an anisotropic diffusion equation generates segmentation-like results by enhancing edges represented by the high value of the gradient and smoothing away small inter-regional features. The algorithm ensures the existence of a stable fixed-point solution and maintains a mean grey level of image intensity.

متن کاملNew PDE-based methods for image enhancement using SOM and Bayesian inference
A novel approach is presented in this paper for improving anisotropic diffusion PDE models, based on the Perona–Malik equation. A solution is proposed from an engineering perspective to adaptively estimate the parameters of the regularizing function in this equation. The goal of such a new adaptive diffusion scheme is to better preserve edges when the anisotropic diffusion PDE models are applie...
متن کاملAnisotropic diffusion of multivalued images with applications to color filtering
A general framework for anisotropic diffusion of multivalued images is presented. We propose an evolution equation where, at each point in time, the directions and magnitudes of the maximal and minimal rate of change in the vector-image are first evaluated. These are given by eigenvectors and eigenvalues of the first fundamental form in the given image metric. Then, the image diffuses via a sys...
متن کاملA Comparison of State-of-the-Art Diffusion Imaging Techniques for Smoothing Medical/Non-Medical Image Data
Abstract Partial differential equations (PDE’s) have dominated image processing research recently (see Suri et al. [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6] and Haker [7]). The three main reasons for their success are: (1) their ability to transform a segmentation modeling problem into a partial differential equation framework and their ability to embed and integrate different regularizers into these models...
متن کاملA Novel Spot-Enhancement Anisotropic Diffusion Method for the Improvement of Segmentation in Two-dimensional Gel Electrophoresis Images, Based on the Watershed Transform Algorithm
Introduction Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DGE) is a powerful technique in proteomics for protein separation. In this technique, spot segmentation is an essential stage, which can be challenging due to problems such as overlapping spots, streaks, artifacts and noise. Watershed transform is one of the common methods for image segmentation. Nevertheless, in 2DGE image segmentation, the no...
